Moving from Shopify

Move from Shopify

Connect your Shopify store with read-only access, check the preview, and import your books, readers, orders, discount codes and redirects.

The importer reads your Shopify store and brings it over. Nothing in Shopify changes, and you check everything before readers see it. See also switching from Shopify.

Before you start

Create your store first. Have your Shopify address ready: find it in Shopify under Settings, Domains. It ends in .myshopify.com.

Steps

  1. Go to Move from Shopify.
  2. Type your Shopify address and choose Connect Shopify.
  3. Shopify asks you to approve read-only access. Approve it. We never change, delete or sell anything in your Shopify store.
  4. Lanternbee reads your products, customers, orders, discount codes and redirects. The page shows the progress and updates by itself.
  5. Check the preview. Your products are grouped into books, series and editions. For each book you can:
    • set or change its series,
    • change the format of an edition we guessed wrong,
    • leave out a Shopify product you don’t want.
  6. Choose Save changes if you changed anything.
  7. Choose Import. The button shows how many books will come over.

What comes over

  • Books, as titles with editions. “Book One (Ebook)” and “Book One (Paperback)” become one book with two editions. Covers are copied.
  • Series, with book numbers where we found them.
  • Readers and the books they bought, which wait in their library.
  • Orders, so your sales history stays in one place.
  • Discount codes: percentage and fixed-amount codes.
  • Redirects, so old Shopify product links open the right book pages.

What doesn’t

  • Ebook and audiobook files. Shopify doesn’t hold them. Upload them yourself.
  • Bundles and box sets. We list them so you can set them up again with bundle rules.
  • Products that aren’t books. We list them under Not books, and they stay in Shopify.
  • Other kinds of discount, like free shipping or buy X get Y.
  • Customers without an email address.

When the import finishes, see after the Shopify import.

If something goes wrong

  • An import is already running. Only one runs at a time. Wait for it to finish.
  • The Shopify link expired. Start the move again.
  • Shopify did not let us in. Start again and approve the request in Shopify.
  • The import stopped. The page says why. Choose Start again, or contact us if it keeps happening.
