Bundle

Also called book bundle

A bundle is two or more books, or two formats of one book, sold together at one price that is usually less than buying each on its own.

What it means

Bundles come in a few shapes:

  • A series bundle: every book in a series, or the first three, for one price.
  • A format bundle: the ebook and the audiobook of one title, or the paperback with the ebook included.
  • A hand-picked set: books you choose, such as a starter pack of a romance author’s standalones, or three nonfiction guides on the same subject.

A cookbook author might sell the paperback with the ebook for a little more than the paperback alone, so readers can cook from a tablet. A sci-fi author might sell the first trilogy as one bundle.

Why it matters when you sell direct

Bundles are one of the things direct sales do best. Retailers sell one item at a time, but your store can sell a whole series in one checkout.

There is a catch: a reader who already owns book one does not want to pay for it again. A good bundle knows what the reader owns and charges them less for the rest.

How Lanternbee handles it

Lanternbee has three kinds of bundles: a whole series, a format set for one title (such as ebook plus audiobook), and a set of editions you pick. You set the price. Readers who already own one of the books from your store pay less for the rest. On Shopify, this usually means a separate bundle app.
